Renowned UK-based dance group Hofesh Shechter Company will present its popular Political Mother at Shilpakala Vedika on Friday as a part of the British Council’s new season of contemporary dance, Impulse 2 .

It will also be a part of the Happening Hyderabad programme launched by the Telangana Government to promote the city.

British Council India Director Rob Lynes said Impulse was a three-month long celebration of UK dance, and is part of the British Council’s ‘Re-Imagine Arts’ initiative.

It features three leading dance companies from the UK during September, October and November this year. Scottish Dance Theatre returns to India after Impulse Season 1, while Hofesh Shechter Dance Company and Avant Garde Dance make their country debut.

Apart from the performances, the dancers and musicians will participate in a range of outreach activities including workshops, lecture demonstrations, master classes and collaborative sessions with practitioners and students in India. Impulse will also convene valuable forums for artistes from India and UK to engage in mutually beneficial projects.

Hofesh Shechter said Political Mother was a 70-minute dance act performed by 10 dancers and is accompanied by Shechter’s cinematic score featuring a band of live drummers and electric guitarists. For details, visit www.british council.in/impulse2 .
