With younger women in India (between 25 and 50 years) getting diagnosed with breast cancer, Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) announced the launch of Young Breast Cancer Conquerors Forum (YBCC).

As part of the breast cancer awareness month, UBF is also holding its annual Pink Ribbon Walk-2014 on Sunday, October 12 from KBR Park.

Forum launched

At the launch of YBCC, the breast cancer foundation also released a video message of actor Gautami, a cancer conqueror herself, on the importance of spreading awareness among young women about breast cancer.

The foundation is also making attempts to illuminate historical monuments like Legislative Assembly, Charminar and Buddha statue with pink, a colour that represents breast cancer awareness. “Due to reasons that are largely unknown, young Indian women are being diagnosed with breast cancer. In west, the disease is diagnosed after 50 years. There is a definite need for a breast cancer support group for young women and YBCC is such a platform, said CEO and Director, UBF, Dr. P. Raghu Ram. According to UBF authorities, young women react differently when diagnosed with breast cancer.

They undergo a range of emotions including body image, fertility preservation and even hair loss. “Younger breast cancer patients need support and their concerns have to be addressed. Their concerns are different to those confronting older women with breast cancer. The support group will help such patients,” Dr. Raghu Ram said.
