If payments are not made, building may be treated as illegal

All relevant details of eligible applicants for the Building Penalisation Scheme (BPS) would be put on the website in a day or two, GHMC Commissioner, M.T. Krishna Babu, announced here on Saturday.

December 31 happens to be the last date and around 27,860 applications eligible for BPS are yet to make the required full payment. To facilitate easy access to information, such as the amount to be paid by each of the eligible applicant and other requirements, required information would be posted on the website, he said.

Till the end of the month, the circle offices would be open and available on public holidays too for the purpose and officials have been asked to concentrate on this exclusively.

“BPS is one-time opportunity provided by the government. We request eligible applicants to avail of it by the prescribed date,” Mr. Krishna Babu said. Those who fail to use the opportunity will end up with their building being treated as illegal and face problems pertaining to bank loans and so on.

Also, there was a proposal to enhance the penalty in taxes for such properties and that could be very steep, he cautioned. Responding to a query, he said that even the official concerned claims the file to be missing, applicants can approach with the acknowledgement and the same can be verified in the computerised data.
