A 12-year-old boy, Esu, sustained nearly 80 per cent burns when he came in contact with high tension power lines while playfully hurling a rope onto them at Dundigal on Saturday.

He was shifted to Gandhi Hospital. A fourth standard student, Esu scaled the compound wall of a building near his house at Shivalayanagar in Suraram. He hurled a rope over the high tension wires when he lost balance and came in contact with the live wires.

“Residents of the locality said they heard an explosion like sound. They saw the boy battling for life with burns all over the body after coming out to find out what had happened,” Dundigal Inspector V. Bhaskar said.
