A three-year-old boy had a miraculous escape after accidentally going down the escalator while riding a toy car at Big Bazaar in Kacheguda on Wednesday.

The boy Abhiram sustained fracture below the forehead and above the nose. “It was a bleeding injury, but there is not threat to his life. He is recuperating in a private hospital,” the police said.

Dilsukhnagar resident Sudhakar and his wife came to the shopping mall in the afternoon along with their son Abhiram. They went up the first floor where Sudhakar’s wife wanted to buy clothes. The parents made the boy sit in a toy car. While they were preoccupied with selecting the clothes, the boy started pedalling the toy car.

The toy car zoomed towards the moving escalator and slid down the escalator. “While the escalator reached the floor, the boy got ejected from the toy car and bumped against the railing,” Sultan Bazaar Inspector Shiva Shankar said.

Alerted by the sound, Sudhakar and others rushed towards the escalator. But by then the toy car carrying the kid went onto the escalator. Abhiram was admitted in a private hospital.

No complaint was lodged with the police.
