Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Monday underscored the need for institutional support by government departments towards the publication of important books especially those reflecting the city’s heritage. Lamenting that many were not aware of several historic landmarks here, he criticised the absence of proper street signs in the city.
Addressing a gathering at Raj Bhavan after releasing the book ‘Heritage Hyderabad’, written by his press secretary and senior Information & Public Relations official M. Krishnanand, the Governor was appreciative of the effort that went into making the ‘fabulous book’.
He said the book would be kept in all the guest rooms of Raj Bhavan and also wondered why some monuments should not be kept open for the public like the military jail at Trimulgherry crossroads in Secunderabad, a replica of the famous cellular jail in the Andaman’s.
The book was brought out in Telugu by Mr. Krishnanad under the name ‘Adaab Hyderabad’ few years ago. The current book, sponsored by the Hyderabad Metro Rail, chronicles the stories behind 92 heritage monuments.
