Demanding that the State government should not implement 12 % reservation for Muslim minorities, the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a procession, dharna and rasta roko before the Collectorate on Saturday.
They raised slogans against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao demanding that he reconsider his decision and not to go ahead with provision of reservations on the basis of religion.
A large number of party workers took out a rally from the Inspection Bungalow to the Collectorate. Later, the BJP leaders staged a rasta roko for some time before the Collectorate. The police arrested the protesting leaders and later released them.
Expresses solidarity
Former legislator Baddam Bal Reddy who was scheduled to participate in the dharna was late by more than two hours and by the time he reached the Collectorate the programme was over. He later joined the party workers who were arrested by the police. The agitation was led by former legislator K. Satyanarayana.
Mr. Bal Reddy expressed solidarity with the ongoing agitation by the students of Agricultural Engineering College and demanded that the government consider their request to consider engineering degree for various posts in Agricultural Department.
