BJP to field candidate for Medak LS, with TDP support

August 24, 2014 10:36 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 08:06 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telugu Desam Party has decided to back the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate in the by-election to the Medak Lok Sabha seat.

The pact is a continuation of the pre-poll tie-up the two parties had during the general election. By-election has been necessitated after Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao vacated the Medak seat on taking over as the Chief Minister of Telangana.

The TDP and BJP leaders arrived at the decision at a meeting held at the residence of TDP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao, on Sunday. The TDP’s Telangana president, L. Ramana, said that like in the general election, his party has decided to support the BJP. “This only held a mirror to the TDP’s endeavour in striving for good governance,” he said.

BJP’s Telangana president G. Kishan Reddy said a list of probable candidates would be sent to the central leadership and the official name is likely to be declared on August 26. “Our candidate will file nomination papers on August 27. No matter who it is, we expect overwhelming support from the public, considering how people spontaneously took to agitations over the ruling party’s seeming callousness on key issues,” he said.

The meeting was attended by BJP MLA K. Laxman and its Medak constituency in-charge Manohar, and TD Legislature Party leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao.

Meanwhile, among the probables are Nagam Janardhan Reddy, a former Minister when he was with the TDP and BJP leader Baddam Bal Reddy, apart from Mr. Kishan Reddy himself. . Other names in contention are Kommuri Pratap Reddy, Akula Rajaiah and C. Anji Reddy.
