The Telangana unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) considers itself to be a credible alternative to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and will be leveraging the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi among the citizens to try and win the next Assembly polls.

“We have won in Assam, Manipur, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh having sizeable minorities populations. In fact, we have won in 60 constituencies in UP where minorities are in a majority, indicating that they are with us too attracted by the development agenda of Mr. Modi. We are confident of doing well here in 2019 elections,” claimed party chief K. Laxman at a press conference here on Monday.

BJP stands a chance since the “TRS Government has a shallow record in implementing poll promises and failures on several fronts”. “It has brought the 12 % quota for minorities into the forefront only to divert the people’s attention from other burning issues. We will fight against it.”

Amit Shah meeting

To give a boost to the party prospects and to pep up the cadre, national party president Amit Shah will be participating in the workers meeting to be held in the Hyderabad parliamentary constituency on April 7. “Secunderabad parliamentary constituency is already with us. We want to show we can win in Hyderabad too,” said Dr. K. Laxman.

The State unit which held a four-day training camp recently had chalked out an elaborate public outreach programme to propagate the party’s ideology and achievements of the Modi government at the parliamentary constituency level throughout Telangana till April 14. It had requested Union Cabinet ministers like Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javadekar and others along with senior leaders like P Muralidhar Rao to participate and address party workers from the booth level committees and above.
