A group of girl students from Bihar residing in a private hostel at Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday charged that the hostel owner’s son and others have been harassing them.

While the hostel owner, Navaneetham, her son Narender and family members denied the charges, the students alleged that Narender and his friends tried to misbehave with them at the hostel on Tuesday night.

“On learning about the trouble at the hostel, a police party had gone there and sent away Narender and others late on Tuesday night,” Vanasthalipuram ACP L. Anand Bhaskar said. The girls maintained that they were worried about their safety as some strangers had started knocking the hostel door in the night and brought their friends residing in a nearby hostel.

In the early hours of Wednesday, the girls rang up the police again expressing concern about their security. Police rushed there and shifted them along with their baggage to another hostel. The ACP the police would not compromise on the security of women and assured to provide adequate security to the girls.

Meanwhile, the hostel owner’s family claimed that some woman boarders of the hostel were trying to defame them after they were instructed to comply with the hostel rules.
