The 18-hole Hyderabad Golf Association course, with the backdrop of the historic Golconda Fort, will come alive thanks to the first-ever premier golf tournament, Golconda Masters championship, to be hosted there from February 26 to March 1.

The Professional Golf Tour of India, governing body of the sport in India, has announced its partnership with HGA for this first-ever professional event in the city.

The picturesque course, which is receiving all-round acclaim for its beautifully maintained fairways and the greens, should well be a delight for the players.

The Golconda Masters will feature 120 top professional golfers from India and the neighbouring countries besides some amateurs from the home country.

The top 50 finishers will continue to play for another 36 holes over the last two days and it will be played in the stroke-play format. Effectively, the player who finishes the 72 holes with the least number of strokes will be the champion.

“We are proud indeed to host this prestigious tournament at Hyderabad Golf Club, a course that’s as challenging as it is beautiful. It’s only fitting that the world’s top golfers will match their skills while soaking in some of the most spectacular historical beauty Telangana has to offer,” says HGA president N. Ramesh Reddy.

The magnificent course spread over 110-acre, promoted by the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation and the Hyderabad Golf Association (HGA), also has a 6,200 yard and a par-71 layout that also features a floodlit driving range, a pro shop, a golf fitting shop, and training and practice facilities, the HGA official explained.

“A modern clubhouse with dining hall, lounge, open deck, change rooms, and trained staff is also in place. The mission of the project is to set up an international standard golf course, a golf training academy and to put Hyderabad on the world golfing map,” Mr. Reddy said.

Mr. Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, says that they are excited about their debut in the newly-formed Telangana.

“The Golconda Masters provides us a platform to promote the Hyderabad Golf Course as a popular golfing destination in the country,” he said.

Award

Significantly, the HGA Course was also awarded the ‘Best Tourism Friendly Golf Course’ by National Tourism.
