Two children, found working as domestic helps, were rescued from the houses of the chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Cooperative Bank Limited Veera Reddy and industrialist Sanjay Morari, Labour Department officials said on Thursday.

The children were rescued during raids conducted at MLA’s Colony, Banjara Hills.

While A. Satya, 13, who hails from Srikakulam district, was employed at Morari’s house, T. Ramesh, 15, of Mahabubnagar, was found working at Veera Reddy’s residence, Deputy Commissioner of Labour, S. Naresh Kumar said.

Satya said she was not aware of the remuneration for her work since Morari would directly pay her parents. “She is now in a state of shock. We will be able to know more from her in another three days,” Mr. Naresh Kumar said.

In the other case, officials said Ramesh had been attending to daily routine work at Veera Reddy’s house. The employer, however, claimed that the boy had been attending a nearby Government school. “We are yet to verify the employer’s claims,” the Labour official maintained.

Age determination

Mr. Naresh Kumar said the two children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, which ordered shifting of the boy to the Government Home for Boys in Saidabad and the girl to the Government Home for Girls, Nimboliadda. Prosecution would be launched against the employers under Section 3 of the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, after determining their age, he said.
