Police will collect more evidence from the complainant in connection with a case against actor Salman Khan and producers of the reality TV show, ‘Big Boss 7’, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
“Before proceeding further with the investigations into the case, we have sought legal opinion with regard to the jurisdiction and culpability,” Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said.
The Falaknuma Police, following a court order, had registered a case against the actor and the reality show producers under Section 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage the religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC. “We will seek more information from the complainant, Mohammed Fasihuddin, to corroborate his account,” Falaknuma Inspector M. Hussaini Naidu said. He added that Fasihuddin had filed a petition in a local court, seeking a direction to police to register a criminal case on the ground that the show had hurt the religious sentiments of a community. According to the petitioner, certain expressions used by Salman for describing the elimination and promotion of participants were “offensive” in nature.
The court, after hearing the petition, directed the Falaknuma Police to book a criminal case and investigate the charges.
