The five-year-old rape victim from Bidar district of Karnataka, who was admitted in Niloufer Hospital after being sexually assaulted by a neighbour back home, was discharged on Wednesday.
The girl was raped on December 17, a day after the sensational Delhi rape incident, at her home in a remote village of Bhalki mandal, 40 kilometres away from the district headquarters. She was referred to the Niloufer Hospital after doctors at Bidar district hospital failed to stop the bleeding.
According to the discharge card given to the girl’s mother, there were possibilities of the girl developing recto-vaginal fistula, in which case, the girl would have to be brought back to the hospital.
Doctors at Niloufer said that the girl’s condition was stable, and further stay in hospital could lead to infections.
However, the parents of the girl were far from satisfied. The girl was going through severe pain while passing stools, and there was trace of blood in her urine, her mother complained. She expressed her wish to have the girl admitted in a private hospital, and take her home only after she recovers fully.
“We stay in the interior parts of Bidar, and it would be very difficult for us to come all the way till here in case of complications,” she said.
Meanwhile, a delegation of representatives from All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) unit of Karnataka visited the girl in the hospital and interacted with the parents.
K. Neela, vice-president, Karnataka State unit of AIDWA, complained that only one out of the two abductors of the girl had been arrested by the Bidar police so far.
“The girl identified a person by the name Raghuveer as the attacker, who was initially interrogated by the police. He divulged the name of another person, Dayanand. The police simply arrested the latter, and released the person named by the girl,” she said.
The issue has assumed importance after the National Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the Bidar SP on Tuesday, seeking a report within four weeks about the delay in nabbing the accused.
