Four of the city’s major stretches would be identified for immediate implementation of Non-Motorised Transport (NMT) facilities such as continuous pavements for pedestrians and bicycle tracks.
Working groups constituted by the government for implementing the NMT Policy under the chairmanship of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) Commissioner, Neerabh Kumar Prasad, asked Lea Associates-India, consultants for the Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS), to identify major stretches so that work could be taken up immediately.
Working papers on the NMT and parking policies in the city had already been submitted, and as per the suggestion of Unified Metro Transport Authority (UMTA), the government had constituted two working groups for formulation of the policies.
The working groups met here on Thursday and held discussions with the consultants on issues related to planning and regulation, legal, engineering, enforcement and coordination aspects, among other issues, an HMDA statement said.
