A festival to celebrate the importance of Bhongir Fort, which would also draw plans to develop the historical structure in an integrated way, would take place in January 2018.
“The fort is a potential centre for studying historical timeline of the region, tourism, culture and encouraging sport events. We want to integrate all aspects and develop the Fort,” said Telangana Tourism Secretary B. Venkatesham on Saturday.
And, ‘Bhongir Fort Festival’ to be conducted in January would streamline many such ideas. The only such large monolithic rock structure in Asia, Bhongir Fort, 50 km from Hyderabad is a landmark in itself for its historical value. The team which scaled the Fort-hillock later observed the need for various amenities for tourists. The place would also be promoted for conducting cultural and musical shows to highlight its importance, the team said.
Believed to change the access and value of the fort among all kinds of tourists, the pending ‘Cable Car’ installation is slated to be completed by June 2018, he informed. Mr. Venkatesham said the delay was due to the land acquisition for the project, which was cleared now. “The related tenders at a cost of ₹ 6 crore, already declared would give a headstart to the project,” he said.
District Collector Anita Ramachandran, who was along with the team, informed that proposals for developing the district as a tourist hub were made, in wake of the development of the Yadadri temple. “A dedicated tourist bus service between Hyderabad and the district, everyday, would also promote the region, with already unique attractions at Pochampally, Kolanupaka, Gandhamalla and Yadadri, into a whole tourist circuit” she felt.
A structure, symbolic of adventure, learning and fun, Bhongir Fort will be equipped with all safety norms for touristy activities, Mr. Venkatesham assured.
