Close to 100 attenders of the in-patients of Mahavir Hospital in the city now have access to piping hot lunch served free of cost by the Hare Krishna Movement (HKM), Hyderabad under ‘Bhojanamrita’ scheme from Monday onwards.

In another few months, 1,000 attenders of in-patients at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) will also be able to have a sumptuous free meal daily. The Bhojanamrita scheme, which is already under implementation at Niloufer Hospital, Government District Hospital in Mahabubnagar and Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital, aims to cater to attenders of the in-patients in the Government and Trust hospitals as they find it tough to afford a proper square meal.

“The patients admitted are given food in the hospitals but attenders struggle to afford a quality meal. This programme is aimed at them. It has been running successfully because of the donors who have supported us all along,” said Gaura Chandra Dasa, president, HKM, Hyderabad during the scheme’s launch at the Mahavir Hospital.

The free food scheme at Mahavir Hospital is being donated by Shyam Gupta and Veerendra Giri. “The efforts of philanthropists and HKM to feed the poor should be lauded and supported by all,” said Justice V. Eshwaraiah, former A.P. High Court Judge, who inaugurated the scheme.
