The usual bustle on roads in the city was missing on Thursday as people preferred to stay indoors, with mercury shooting up. With summer advancing relentlessly, temperature crossed 40 degree Celsius.

Met authorities warned that the temperature would touch 42 degrees Celsius in the coming days, indicating a torrid summer ahead. Now, it is just a degree above the normal.

As the sun started beating down, people were forced to use caps, umbrellas and scarves.

While shops selling these protective wear saw brisk sales, off-take of beverages, ice creams and cool drinks, too, went up sharply.

With the rising temperature, sun-burn cases are also on the rise. Skin specialists have advised people to avoid constant exposure to the sun and to wear clothes that fully cover the skin.
