Improved road connectivity between the southern parts and the new growth areas in the west of the city is turning out to be a boon to small-time traders and skilled workers, what with many making the most of the opportunity to explore new job opportunities.
Taking advantage of the development of Inner Ring Road and Gachibowli Road, scores of people are moving towards Chandanagar, Gachibowli, Kondapur, Hitec City, Jubilee Hills and Kukatpally to take up jobs.
Opportunities
Unlike the past, when these areas were mostly associated with IT and ITES industries, they are now opening up opportunities to skilled workers like welders, electricians, masons, mechanics and florists. Also, a sizeable number of people work as security guards and supervisors. This is apart from small entrepreneurs who sell products in middle-class dominated colonies.
New growth areas
Many prefer to work in the new growth areas for the good money it offers. Besides, superior road connectivity ensures a hassle-free journey while saving travel time.
Sheik Yousuf, a bike mechanic who travels from Chandrayangutta to Raidurgam, says: “It takes around an hour to reach Chandanagar, which is 22 km away, while it takes about two hours to reach Secunderabad, which is 16 km away.”
Says Sunil Kumar of Jiyaguda who works as a security guard at a bank in Gachibowli: “People from Secunderabad and Dilsukhnagar avoid these areas owing to heavy traffic and long travel hours. Many of those working here [Gachibowli] are from the south or west of the city.”
Several small-time entrepreneurs are also exploring opportunities by moving to the new growth areas.
“I travel on my moped regularly to Hafeezpet and its surroundings areas to sell bed sheets and carpets,” says Moinuddin, a resident of Shivrampally. With the authorities planning to develop road connectivity, many more are expected to join the brigade.
