Beef festival: police asked to probe two professors' role

April 28, 2012 10:19 am | Updated December 04, 2021 11:11 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

A local court here on Friday directed the Osmania University police to probe the charge that Prof. P.L. Visweswara Rao and Prof. Kancha Ilaiah had conspired and instigated some students of Osmania University to organise a beef festival on the campus, that triggered tension two weeks ago.

The court was acting on a petition filed by an OU student V. Nagaraj accusing the two professors of creating hatred among the students and vitiating the atmosphere in the university. The professors' action had also hurt the sentiments of other students, he alleged. After hearing the arguments, the court has directed the OU police to investigate the case and submit a report by May 31, according to the petitioner's counsel G. Venugopal.

In another case, a local court extended the judicial remand of film actress Tara Chowdhary till May 11. Police produced the actress, who is presently lodged in Chanchalguda jail, in the court. She was arrested for allegedly forcing a girl into prostitution.
