Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand on Tuesday directed banks to voluntarily shut ATMs located at inaccessible and risky places.
Security guards, with weapons, should also be posted at the kiosks round-the-clock, the Commissioner said, listing out a series of safety measures that need to be installed at ATMs and banks. The guards should also be provided a mobile phone with numbers of police stations, in case of emergency.
Quality surveillance cameras with night vision facility should be inside installed inside and outside the bank and ATM premises, Mr. Anand said.
Banks have also been asked to install control rooms to enable regular monitoring of CCTV footage.
Such footage should be stored for a minimum of three months. The entry door to ATMs must be fitted with a magnetic lock.
Alarm systems should be installed in banks with a facility to alert phone bank officials and the police through phone.
“We will conduct surprise checks from January 15 onwards. If banks failed to take necessary steps, then action would be taken against the erring managements,” the Commissioner warned.
