In order to encourage water harvesting structures among the farming community and help them reap riches by cultivating less water-intensive crops such as vegetables, the national and cooperative banks have allocated ₹ 30 crore in the undivided Karimnagar district.
District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed released the bank credit plan with the participation of State Bank of India, Andhra Bank, Karimnagar district cooperative central bank and Telangana Grameena Bank in the town on Tuesday. NABARD DGM Subhash Chandra, NABARD AGM Ravi Babu, DCCB vice chairman Mohan Reddy, CEO Satyanarayana and others were also present.
The banks would provide financial assistance for tank silt application in the fields, deepening of wells, recharge of borewells and open wells, pandal vegetable cultivation and drumstick cultivation etc. NABARD Asst. GM Ravi Babu said that the campaign was aimed at helping farmers conserve water, cultivate the crops which consume less water and give more profits.
Financial assistance of ₹ 2.5 lakh per unit would be given for taking up pandal vegetable cultivation, ₹ 60,000 per unit for drumstick cultivation, ₹ 10,000 for application of tank silt in the fields, ₹ 30,000 per unit for deepening of wells, ₹10,000 for recharge of open wells and ₹ 40,000 for recharge of borewells.
