Balala sangham seeks ban on milk brands

Seeks ban on popular milk brands for ‘containing harmful bacteria’

October 11, 2013 11:28 pm | Updated November 28, 2021 09:41 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Andhra Pradesh Balala Hakkula Sangham (APBHS) on Friday filed a petition before Lokayukta Justice Subhashan Reddy, seeking a ban on popular milk brands like Heritage, Mother Dairy, Vijaya, Jercy, Nestle, Nandi Reliance and Dairy Life.

The Food Analysis Department revealed that the brands contained harmful bacteria such as E-Coli and salmonella, apart from urea, which is a deadly bacteria that harms eyes, brain, digestive system and gynecomastia.

Though the Sangham approached all officials concerned to ban the brands, their efforts were in vain.

The APBHS approached the Lokayukta, against the inactiveness and negligence of officials in banning the harmful milk brands.

Admitting the petition, Lokayukta served notices to the GHMC Commissioner as well as the Health and Family Welfare Commissioner, seeking explanation and report on the issue by June 6, 2014.
