Centre for Sight (CFS) Eye Hospital, Hyderabad is organising awareness programmes between May 11 and 17 on retinoblastoma, the commonly occurring eye cancer in children, said its director and ocular oncologist Santosh G. Honaver, in a press release here on Monday. The programmes are part of World Retinoblastoma Awareness Week, being held by health providers.
According to CFS doctors, on an average, close to 1,500 fresh retinoblastoma cases are reported among children (below five years) every year in India, which incidentally is the highest in the world. “If the child is examined early and referred to an eye cancer specialist for treatment, then the cancer can be controlled,” Dr. Honaver said.
