Auto drivers in twin cities have decided to go off the road on February 20 and 21 to press in for their demands, including formation of a welfare board for auto drivers.
All the auto-rickshaws will stay off the road during these two days and extend their support to the nation-wide general strike called by trade unions. The government should scrap orders, which stipulate minimum eighth standard qualification for drivers to obtain driving licence, said B. Venkatesham, general secretary of A.P. Auto drivers and Workers Federation in a statement.
Autos and buses, which ferry school children, would participate in the strike. The government should slash the increased vehicle insurance fee also, said A. Ravi Shanker, general secretary of A.P. Auto and Taxi Drivers Union. Meanwhile, A.P. Auto Drivers Samaikya secretary, A. Sathi Reddy asked for the application forms.
