Cyberabad police on Tuesday nabbed an autorickshaw driver on charges of raping an eight-year-old girl at NTR Nagar under the L.B. Nagar police station limits. The girl is a class II student.

The girl and her brother were on their way to call their father, who was working as a painter in a house in the same locality, when autorickshaw driver Javed approached them and offered to buy them firecrackers.

He then took them to an open land earmarked for constructing a park and gave Rs.100 to the girl’s brother to get change from a nearby medical shop.

After the boy left, Javed took the girl into the bushes and committed the crime, L.B. Nagar ACP B. Venkat Reddy said.

The girl returned home weeping and when her mother enquired, she narrated about the incident.

Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s parents, the police registered a case under Section 376 (rape) of IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act-2012 and Nirbhaya Act and arrested the autorickshaw driver.
