Independence Day used to be like any other day for Satyandar Singh as he used to go out driving his auto to eke out his daily living. But this year, it was different.

Mr. Singh, and about 150 auto drivers from the city, were felicitated by Swami Bodhamayananda, director of Vivekananda Institute of Human Excellence (VIHE) here on Thursday. “It is the first time that I am attending such an event. By recognising our services, we were made to feel like we are an integral part of the society,” Mr. Singh said. They received a pair of uniforms, books and fruits from the institute.

This year Independence Day coincided with the 150th birthday of Swamy Vivekananda.
