The State Election Commission (SEC) has sought a report from the Nellore District Collector and Election Officer regarding the alleged auctioning of ZPTC and MPTC seats in the district.
Replying to a query, SEC officials said here on Monday that reports related to the auctioning of seats were brought to their notice, and they immediately sought a report from the Collector. “We will get the report by Tuesday evening. After ascertaining facts, the Commission will initiate action as per law,” they said.
Karimnagar Staff Reporter adds: Even as the district election authorities have been vehemently appealing to the rural masses to elect their leaders by exercising their franchise, the villagers of Dumala village in Yellareddypet mandal reportedly conducted auctioning of MPTC member posts.
Reports said the villagers of Dumala, once a stronghold of Naxalites in Yellareddypet mandal, assembled at the village centre on Sunday evening to discuss the MPTC elections under the leadership of sarpanch G. Narasimha Reddy. The villagers said that they would elect a candidate, who would lay a CC road measuring around 500 meters in the village.
At this juncture, a villager, Ulli Kistaiah, rose to the occasion and promised to lay the road with his money. Immediately, another person, Balaiah, said he would develop the road and urged villagers to extend their support to him for the elections. Later, the villagers left for their houses, undecided about whom to elect as MPTC member.
Following the news, Sircilla DSP Damera Narsaiah, along with his team, rushed to the village on Monday and conducted an inquiry. The DSP said that there was an attempt to violate the election code of conduct. Based on a complaint lodged by Yellareddypet Tahsildar Amarnath, the police registered a case under IPC 151 (b) and 171 (e), he said, and added that they had decided to write to the court as the case was non-cognisable.
Nizamabad Staff Reporter adds: Police foiled the efforts of the Village Development Committee to auction the MPTC membership at Mylaram village in Dharpally mandal and bound over as many as 72 persons involved in it before the revenue authorities.
As soon as information reached the police, they rushed to the village. The persons involved in the auctioning fled the scene, according to information.
