Attendants of patients get a meal for ₹10

Pilot project launched at Nalgonda Government General Hospital

Minister for Energy and SC Development G. Jagadish Reddy inaugurated a subsidized food catering facility to serve attendants accompanying patients admitted to the Government General Hospital, here on Friday.

Aimed at serving quality food to patients’ attendants, the food prepared by inmates at the District Jail located two kms away, will be available every noon at ₹10 per person. It would follow a token system provided by the hospital authorities.

Presently, meals at a cafeteria on the hospital campus is priced between ₹50 and ₹70.

Expanded to others

A brainchild of the District Collector Gaurav Uppal, the facility will initially cater to one attendant for each patient in the 400-bedded hospital, and will be expanded to other attendants after the trial period.

Speaking to media after serving food to some 100 attendants at the inaugural, Mr. Reddy said that services at government hospitals are being delivered on par with any private hospital.

“Gone are the days when people were afraid to visit a government hospital,” he said.

KCR kits

Reiterating the success of KCR kits in the State, he said institutional deliveries have gone up and services to the in-patients and out-patients too were being enhanced.

On staff shortage and equipment needed at hospitals, Mr. Reddy said facilities are being upgraded and plans have been discussed with the Medical and Health Department are discussed. He assured the hospital authorities of better packages for development, including area hospitals and primary healthcare centres.

TSFDC Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, Nalgonda MP G. Sukhender Reddy, Hospital Superintendent Narsing Rao were present.
