The alleged attempt on the life of a student of Osmania University at C hostel on the campus has turned curious with the student reportedly giving different versions.
Though an attempt to murder case was registered following the complaint from PG student, Rama Rao, the OU police are probing it from all angles, including the possibility of Rao inflicting injuries on himself. The student initially said a group of unidentified youngsters attacked him with small knives but later mentioned two names of Stalin and Azad.
Doubts of police
While lodging a written complaint, Rama Rao gave seven names of the attackers. While these reportedly different versions drove the investigators cross-check minute details of the complaint, the superficial injuries found on him raised doubts if knives were used in the attack.
The police have sent a questionnaire to the doctor at Gandhi Hospital who had treated the student to give medical opinion about the nature of the injuries and the possible weapon used for inflicting them. Small lacerations were found on the left side of his abdomen and left shoulder.
The student maintained that he came out of his room in the hostel late on Sunday night to answer nature's call when the group of unidentified persons lunged at him carrying small knives. On learning about the attack an hour after Sunday midnight, the OU police shifted him to Gandhi Hospital.
