Asad to sue three media organisations

September 08, 2014 12:09 am | Updated 12:09 am IST - HYDERABAD:

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP, Asaduddin Owaisi, has filed complaints with the Press Council of India (PCI) against Saamna, a Hindi Daily of Mumbai, Kashmir Observer, an English daily of Srinagar and Oneindiaonline, a news portal of Bangalore, for publishing defamatory and libelous statements against him, said a press release from him here on Sunday.

In his complaints against the three media organisations, Mr Owaisi alleged that the publications committed professional misconduct by reporting utterly false and baseless news.

Mr Owaisi said that all the allegations made in the said news item were completely incorrect, malicious and were made with an unlawful intent to cause harm and to bring down his reputation in the eyes of the general public.

The Hyderabad MP informed that he has issued legal notices to the offending media organisations and initiated the process of filing criminal defamation cases against them under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code in the Court of the IX Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Hyderabad.

He requested the Press Council of India to take cognizance of the libelous actions and take necessary action against the offending media organisations.
