The Ministers, said there could be no compromise on separate Telangana State.
Ministers hailing from Telangana region have reportedly sought an appointment with Congress president Sonia Gandhi to jointly submit a memorandum seeking bifurcation of the State.
“The contents of the letter were finalised last week and all the Ministers except a few have appended their signatures. We hope to visit Delhi sometime next week,” said a senior Minister on Wednesday. The Ministers, who met several times before finalising the contents of the letter, said there could be no compromise on separate Telangana State. Prolonging the uncertainty any further could be politically suicidal for the Congress party and the sooner a decision taken on bifurcation the better.
The visit of Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy to the chambers of Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha on Wednesday fuelled the speculation that it was for finalising their Delhi visit. However Mr. Jana Reddy said later he had dropped in at the Deputy Chief Minister’s chamber to inquire about the proposed polytechnic college in his constituency. “Today’s meeting has nothing to do with Telangana issue,” he said.
But he added, “There was never a let-up on the Telangana demand and discussions are a continuous process to achieve our goal without any disruption to peace. We will decide in due course when to visit Delhi.”
