The deplorable state of the city roads, further compounded by the monsoon, has the road-users fuming
You need a back brace to prevent your rear from crumbling while driving on city roads. If not potholes, then you should be wary of fine granules of bitumen posing the threat of skidding. Not to mention the plumes of dust that shroud large sections of our main roads. Surely, these are the worst days for commuters.
Battered stretches
Begumpet, Punjagutta, Raj Bhavan Road, S.D. Road, Ameerpet, Dilsukhnagar, Tarnaka, Uppal, Amberpet, Hitec City, Kondapur, Chirec School to Gachibowli and Chandanagar. The list of roads at their ‘worst’ is endless. Interior roads are also battered beyond belief.
With the biodiversity meet scheduled in October, there is a perception among people that authorities are just waiting for another spell of showers before taking up repairs. “Will authorities repair roads for us or for foreign dignitaries?” asks an angry housewife, Ranjita Kundu, navigating the trench ridden Lalapet road.
“I come from Miyapur to Hitec City and it is damaged fully. They can’t just wait for the rains to be over,” complains Sagar, another IT chap. The RTC X road was never so bad in recent history.
“It is almost like a trench,” says Narender Reddy, a resident. “Such are the crevices that nothing will happen if you sleep on the road and a vehicle passes over,” says a distraught traffic policeman at Punjagutta.
If GHMC and R&B are oblivious to the travellers’ travails, metro rail authorities too are not far behind. The Tarnaka-Uppal stretch, where metro work is on, has been battered beyond recognition.
“One part is dug up, middle portion is barricaded and the leftover road is damaged. How do we travel?” asks Satyajit, a software employee travelling to Madhapur.
Hollow claims
Even more horrendous is the Miyapur –Kukatpally stretch where barricading for metro rail has been done. Loud proclamations of taking over road maintenance during construction by metro rail have turned out to be hollow. After initial repairs, they too seem to have left commuters to nature’s mercy. As streetlights were uprooted for the work, most stretches are dark and the replacements do not emit sufficient brightness.

It starts with the leader at the top. There has to be
accountability. We get what we vote for. Vote down the current folks
and elect leaders who will work for all people and can take care of
civic amenities. Hold contractors who lay roads accountable. It's
amazing the national highways seem to be fine after so many years but
city roads break down every few months.
This government was busy selling real estate for the last few years.
They have no vision other than wasteful spending.
people should come to jharkhand and Bihar towns.
Ranchi is a place where there is no difference between lane and drain.
There is complete lack of administration for traffic. No rules are followed. People come out of their houses and throw the garbage on roads of patna and other towns in Bihar.
Problems! Problems! Problems!
Why does The Hindu not recommend any solutions. The problem of road laying and maintenance has to look for a long term solution and not laying new roads and keep doing the repairing work.
I am from Hyderabad and I am 45 now. For all these years since my childhood, I saw roads expanded, new roads laid and immediately starting repair work, mostly benefiting the contractors.

As a regular commuter from Kondapur to Secunderabad, some part of the road were getting modified to avoid water logging problem. I was just wonering, waterlogging areas are already identified and placed in cyberabad police website. I don't know what took the officials to identify only when it was raining.
This road is regularly used by the ministers including chief minister, and it is more than 30 days old but the original condition of the road was not restored.
If this is the situation of the high frequency road, i can imagine the rest of the road conditions.
Can some one explain, why are we laying the roads on annual or semi annual basis? Why is our raods are getting damaged so frequently? What is the life time of the road? Who is allowing to dug the road and who is ensuring the road is laid properly after the purpose is over?
These people voting for useless parties and still complaining strange?.
Now you know the pain, your karma you experience it.
why the government officers should work if the getting enough money. why
the politicians will work they are looting people as much as they can
and still they can win. why the social workers take care of it since
these people are not supporting them. so you voted your karma you
experience it.
There is no government in AP. Half the Ministers are fighting for
Telengana while the other half are busy collecting bribes. It is
difficult to find a sincere, honest MLA/MP in this state.
