6.47 lakh cusecs discharged into Bay of Bengal
As a result of heavy inflows reaching the Dowleswaram Barrage, the officials on Tuesday discharged water from river Godavari into the Bay of Bengal. The total discharge was recorded as 6.47 lakh cusecs by late Tuesday and this was due to the incessant rains that prevailed in the last week.
The Godavari witnessed a significant water level after a long gap, as the low water levels forced half the delta farmers in East and West Godavari districts to give up the rabi crop. In East Godavari alone, farmers cultivating 1.64 lakh acres under the Kakinada and Mandapeta canals were away from the paddy cultivation during the rabi season. However, the recent rains provided a respite to the farmers and encouraged them to go for transplantation in the current kharif season.
