Media blamed for failing to highlight the issue of Rohingya Muslims
The Indian government should stop its financial grant to the Myanmar for its failure to stop the massacre of ‘Rohingya’ Muslims, felt speakers at a meeting convened to condemn the continuing massacre of ‘Rohingya’ Muslims there. The meeting was organised by Hyderabad Civil society here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion former CPI leader Azeez Pasha said, “Though hundreds of people are being massacred in Myanmar, the international community has not come forward to condemn it.” He criticised the international human rights organisations for maintaining silence on the issue.
Speakers also condemned the role of media in failing to highlight the issue. “It only shows the double standards of the media organisations, particularly the international press,” said Maulana Hamid Mohammed Khan of Movement of Peace and Justice.
Editor of Siasat, Zahid Ali Khan, said that a delegation comprising members of Hyderabad Civil Society and groups would submit a memorandum to the State Governor and later would meet the Prime Minister and President seeking their intervention. Also they would meet the Myanmar Ambassador to India in this regard.

Their strength is around eight lakh in the country. “Though they are a part of the country for centuries, the Myanmar government has recently cancelled their citizenship and the recent riots have dealt a big blow to them with thousands being displaced, said Syed Tareq Quadri, a civil activist.
Professor Kancha Ilaiah, Professor Vishweshwar Rao, Professor Pinniya and Jasween Jairath, also participated in the meeting. A photo exhibition was also organised at the venue on the occasion.

The death toll is not more than 200. The official count is 77, shared by both Rohingya and Arakanese. Rohingya Muslims killed the minority Arakanese in their Muslim-majority Villages. The houses were burnt down. The Arakanese retaliated for their own survival. The Army moved in. The guilty Rohingya mob fled to Bangladesh with their families as if they were forced out to avoid massacre. These incidents happened again and again. The Muslim countries should re-settle these illegal immigrants who knew they were not entitled to Citizen Rights when they first cross the border over the decades.
