Counselling for admission into Post Graduate courses of Osmania University started on Monday at the Nizam College for Commerce and Economic subjects.
Tension built up for some time as some Telangana activists examined the certificates of candidates to verify their region.
A girl student who came from Coastal Andhra region for admission into Commerce subject was allegedly asked not to attend the counselling. She reportedly left the place fearing the activists, who were apparently from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). No other incident was reported.
As per the present rules, students from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions can stake claim in the 15 per cent seats in the Telangana region. They get a seat based on merit after competing with local students for those 15 per cent seats.
An official said that some top students from other regions prefer Osmania University courses for reasons such better coaching facilities in the State capital and more job opportunities.

May I request this editor to put a question to my shameless state Govt, Can't a student from Andhra join OU for higher studies ???? While TRS members are verifying certificates of students, what our officials are doing there ?? This should be taken seriously and those responsible should be prosecuted. The separate statehood gap has been created by politicians for their personal benefits later as an epidemic it spread to jobless students. Please save the basic rights of an Indian Citizen.
