Nominations will come to a close on Saturday
With the first set of nominations filed for the elections to the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) on Thursday, it is clear that there will be a contest for the posts of president and secretary. The election will be held on July 8.
Former Minister and ex-president of HCA, G. Vinod filed nomination for presidentship against the incumbent Arshad Ayub while M.V. Sridhar, former secretary, has decided to contest for secretary’s post against incumbent D.S. Chalapathi.
The all-powerful Shivlal Yadav group has tried to convince Dr. Sridhar to contest for the president’s post. “If elected, I will abide by the one-man one-post rule,” he said. Mr. Chalapathi, who filed a court case challenging the decision to hold election for the secretary’s post is confident of winning the mandate for another term. He contends that he has two more years of tenure as secretary.
Former cricketers S.L. Venkatapathi Raju, Kanwaljit Singh, P. Yadgiri and T. Seshnarayan decided to contest for vice-presidentship (in all, five posts are at stake) while T. Basavaraju (Commercial Taxes) and Purushotham Aggarwal will contest for the post of joint-secretary. From the existing ruling group, Seshadri Venkateshwaran and Vijayanand will be vying for the two posts of joint-secretaries, Naresh Sharma will try to retain the treasurer’s post, while John Manoj of St. John’s is certain to contest for vice-presidentship.
