Describing music as a great stress buster, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Friday described it as a factor that bound all together and one that taught many lessons of life.
In his address after inaugurating the TAG Digital Listening Archive set up by TAG Digital Corporation and The Music Academy, Madras, here at the University of Hyderabad campus, Mr. Narasimhan said music required certain amount of devotion and added that the concept of ‘Guru Shisya Parampara' was an essential component of learning. The Governor also requested the Vice-Chancellor to provide the facility at Golden Threshold, which could be easily accessed by public in the City.
“Music is a stress buster for me. I have no knowledge of music and I can't appreciate it. But with music, I can forget myself and recharge myself,” he said. Appreciating the initiative to set up the archive here, the Governor said the move came as a good omen for the State on this auspicious day of Ugadi.
Speaking on the occasion, N. Murali, president, The Music Academy, Madras, lauded the efforts of R.T. Chari, Managing Director of TAG Digital Academy, in making a huge collection of music. Through sheer passion for music, Mr. Chari and his family had brought together a vast collection of music, he said.
Mr. Murali hoped that the setting up of the archive here would act as a harbinger for the university which was planning to come up with a department for music. Mr. Chari said six more archives were planned in different parts of the South and one in Singapore, he said.
Besides the Music Academy, Madras, the process of establishing the archives at Kalakshetra, Chennai, University of Madras, Chembai Music College in Palaghat was in progress.
For the University of Hyderabad archive, Ramu Endowments has donated 10 sets of computers, headphones, central server and other accessories while TAG is providing recording of 1,000 hours of Carnatic music. The special software enables the listener to retrieve any concert or song of choice.
The university Chancellor, C.H. Hanumantha Rao, and Vice-Chancellor, Ramakrishna Ramaswamy were also present on the occasion.
