Silk Mark expo comprises innumerable weaves

In an attempt to educate consumers about the purity of silk and provide access to genuine silk varieties from across the country, the ‘Silk Mark' expo has been inaugurated at the Satya Sai Nigamagamam on Thursday.

“The domestic silk business of the country is worth Rs.10,000 crore, this is apart from its imports. The ‘Silk Mark' is a quality assurance mark that will provide only pure silk to the consumer,” said K.S Menon, CEO, Silk Mark Organisation.

Hosting all the four varieties of Mulbari silk, Tassar silk, Golden silk and Eri silk -- produced only in India and no other part of the world -- the exhibition comprises innumerable weaves including the Pochampally tie and dye, Kancheepuram, Salem, Ikat, Golden Muga, Ilkal, Patola, Molakalmuru and Sambalpur silk sarees, among others.

Sarees, dress materials and accessories in varieties of silk from 14 States are available in 52 stalls.
