October 11, 2014 01:14 am | Updated May 23, 2016 04:37 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The 13 Indian Arthroscopy Congress (IAC), being organised by Indian Arthroscopy Society to discuss recent advances in sports related injuries and treatment of joint injuries, was inaugurated here on Friday.

According to orthopaedic surgeons, there are procedures available that can enable postponement of knee replacement surgeries by a good 10 to 15 years.

“The advent of the latest procedure of Realignment Osteotomy can avoid and postpone a knee joint replacement by 10-15 years. In western countries especially Germany, most doctors and patients up to the age 65 years opt for realignment Osteotomy instead of knee replacements. They are minimally invasive,” said shoulder and knee specialist and organising secretary of the conference Dr. K. Raghuveer Reddy.

Close to 106 eminent surgeons, which includes 11 international specialists will be presenting new techniques in conference. Around 700 Orthopaedic surgeons from across India and abroad will be attending the meet. Close to 20 surgeries will be conducted at SISA and Nova Hospitals and telecasted live to the venue. There will also be a web telecast of three live shoulder surgeries from Dallas, USA, during which there will be exchange of knowledge between surgeons from both the countries as a part of continuous medical education. Dr. Anant Joshi, sports surgeon from Mumbai and consultant for BCCI; Dr. A. B. Imhoff, Germany and Dr. Adrian Wilson, U.K and other eminent surgeons will be sharing their experiences during the three-day conference.
