The Earth Day celebrations saw the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) initiating a small measure towards energy conservation at Sanjeevaiah Park with the installation of ten solar lights apart from showcasing artworks created from recycled material.

As part of the Hyderabad Eco Art Project, six sculptures from scrap done by sculptor Ch. Manohar have been put on display in the sprawling premises of the city's popular lung space. These art works created from the recycled material including iron collected from industrial scrap, present various themes of environment.

Themes

“These six works were created with recycled material and I worked out the themes that reflect nature and the need for us to stay in harmony with its elements,” says Mr. Manohar.

Some of the creations from what otherwise would have got discarded as waste got shaped for inspirations such as Man and Nature, Harmony with Nature and Meditating Nature.

Nature apart from being fundamental resource for the existence of mankind also happens to be the basic source of inspiration for the artistes, remarks the sculptor who chose to go for artistic expression on issues pertaining to environment.

Energy conservation

Meanwhile, Sanjeevaiah Park which won recognition as the best open landscape during the recent Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) award presentations, has initiated steps towards conservation of energy by installing solar lighting.

As of now, ten such lights have been put in place and the idea is to add more over a period of time.

“This launch of solar lighting was just a beginning and we intend to add more and tap solar energy,” says HMDA OSD M.J.Akbar.

Also, Sanjeevaiah Park, which has a huge lake front of Hussainsagar, is set to host activities related to silver jubilee of the EME Sailing Club in the form of yachting competitions in the month of July.

The logo for the event scheduled to have national level participation has been released coinciding with the Earth Day celebrations by HMDA Commissioner B.P.Acharya, he added.
