An Intermediate first year student was killed after an APSRTC bus hit her before Dilsukhnagar bus depot on Monday.

Enraged over the driver's rash act resulting in the student's death, people attacked the bus before beating up the driver and handing over him to the police. Sixteen-year-old Sandhya from Bhagat Singh Nagar of Saroornagar was a student of Siddhartha Junior College for Girls at Dilsukhangar. After appearing for the pre-final test, Sandhya and her classmate, Jabeen, who is speech and hearing impaired, were walking towards the bus stop. They reached the bus depot when the Vijayawada depot bus rushed towards them.

“The bus driver apparently was negligent and tried to enter the depot gate at high speed though it was a congested with several pedestrians,” Saroorangar SI M. Venkateshwar Goud said.

Hit by the bus, the teenager banged her head against the ground even as her friend watched in horror, the SI said

Death was instant for Sandhya. Jabeen rushed back to the college. “Initially we didn't understand what happened but knew it was something terrible as Jabeen cried while trying to explain about it,” the college staff said.
