The interviews for the posts of lecturers in Government Polytechnic colleges, which were scheduled to begin from Wednesday, were postponed indefinitely by the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC).

The revised schedule of the interviews would be announced later, the commission said in a statement.

The decision to postpone interviews was taken following a sting operation telecast by a Telugu news channel stating that a woman had taken bribe assuring to secure the posts through her “connections” with one of the commission’s members.

To assess TV channel claim

The commission said that it had to assess correctness of the information given by the TV channel and hence put the interviews on hold.

All the members of the commission are present in the office and rumours about their abstention are untrue, it said, in an apparent reference to the news report which stated that one member of the commission went into ‘hiding’ after the news broke out.

Video footage

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission authorities have presented a copy of the CD of the news item aired by the TV channel to Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma.

He said that they would verify the video footage first and assess what had happened.

Based on the findings, further action would be initiated, he said.

The TV channel claimed that in a sting operation conducted by their reporter, the woman had promised to secure the lecturer post after taking the bribe.

She had dropped names of some top officials claiming that they were close to her and demanded Rs. 9 lakh for the post, the channel said.
