The Andhra Pradesh government has kicked off a controversy by announcing its decision to dispose of a fixed asset, a portion of the building housing the State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation at AC Guards in the city.

The AP government has issued an order on Monday appointing a high level committee headed by AP Planning Board vice-chairman C. Kutumba Rao for disposing of a portion of the building. AP General Administration department principal secretary, secretaries of Finance, Revenue, R&B and Law departments are the members of the committee. for which the corporation managing director would be the member convenor.

The development, however, had not gone well with the Telangana authorities who said the corporation was a Schedule IX institutions which is yet to be bifurcated. “Moreover, how can they (AP government) decide to dispose a building which is not in its territory,” a senior official questioned.

Senior officials who took a serious note of the development which they claimed was “provocative” decided to lodge a complaint with the Union Home Ministry which is looking into the post bifurcation reorganisation related affairs. The issue is likely to figure in the discussions during the meeting of reorganisation officials convened by Union Home Ministry in New Delhi on February 23.

The meeting between the two States was initially scheduled for Wednesday to discuss about the problems that were being faced in the implementation of the provisions of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, problems in bifurcation of Schedule IX and X institutions, bifurcation of employees of the power sector and the modalities of handing over the buildings located in Hyderabad to Telangana government. “The meeting is expected to deliberate on regular issues,” a senior official said. But sources said the AP Government’s latest decision is likely to take the centre stage now.
