The Energy Department has succeeded in bringing down the power deficit from a high of 22 million units to almost zero, at present.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has said that the government has already initiated several measures to ensure no power cuts across the State. The measures come in the light of the government’s decision to implement the ambitious ‘Power For All’ scheme envisaged by the Centre from October 2 this year.
Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi are the three States selected for implementation of the pilot project of the PFA to ensure uninterrupted power supply to domestic, commercial and industrial sectors.
The Chief Minister who reviewed the power availability and procurement plans of the energy utilities with senior officials on Thursday said that efforts were underway to provide nine-hour supply to farm sector in a phased manner.
Accordingly, the distribution companies had set a target of procuring 2,000 MW power till May next year and the government had allowed the Discoms to produce another 1,000 MW solar power through competitive bidding process.
Solar parksThe government was also committed to set up solar parks with an aggregated capacity of 1,300 MW in Guntur and Anantapur districts in collaboration with the Centre.
It has been decided to expedite construction of Polavaram Hydro Electric Project (960 MW) by the Power Generation Corporation.
The Chief Minister said that energy audit would be taken up at the transformer level to provide cost effective power to consumers even as efforts were underway to electrify 2,551 hamlets soon. He wanted officials to take steps to encourage bio-plantations to ensure additional income to farmers.

Stating that the government would implement smart metering concept soon, he said the State should become a model State in power sector in a year.
