Fidel R. Snehit of Global Table Tennis Academy and V.S. Harikrishna of St. Paul’s Stag Table Tennis Academy won bronze medals in the Sub-Junior National Meet held in Ajmer. Such an achievement last materialised in 2003 when Subham Sharma won a bronze in the sub-junior category.

Incidentally, Snehit’s consistent performances have helped enter the top four in national rankings.

“This has been a terrific edition for Andhra Pradesh paddlers and this is a very good sign,” coach Koride Sridhar told The Hindu from Ajmer.

It was for the first time that two boys from the State reached the top four at the national meet.

“Though Snehit beat Akash Nath in the team event 3-0, he failed to read one of his critical services in the semi-final of the individual event. Anyway, it is a very good show by our boys,” remarked GTTA chief coach Somnath Ghosh.

Snehit had led Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Jubilee Hills, to its title-triumph in the Durgapur CBSE Nationals last month, besides winning a bronze in the under-14 individual category.

In other results featuring AP players, Naina Jaiswal (LBS) and Varuni Jaiswal (GSM) lost in the sub-junior quarterfinal. However, Ayushi Ghia (GSM) won the bronze in the girls’ category while the duo of Naina and Sailu Noor Basha (Vijayawada) won silver in sub-junior girls’ doubles.
