Health and Family Welfare Minister Danam Nagender on Sunday said that the Assembly had passed a Bill prohibiting smoking in public places.
He said posters with relevant anti-smoking messages in Telugu, English and Urdu would be displayed at prominent places to increase awareness among people.
The Health Minister was addressing a gathering at a programme organised by the radio channel 92.7 Big FM, in association with Ayush Mantra, Celon Laboratories and State Bank of Hyderabad here on the eve of World No Tobacco Day.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan wanted the public to take the initiative in preventing people from smoking in public and said the police would act on complaints if passive smokers told the nearest constable.
Others present included K.V. Rajendra, CEO, Celon Laboratories and Dr. T. Mandapal, Director, MNJ Institute of Oncology and the Regional Cancer Centre.
Earlier, a human chain was formed at People's Plaza on Necklace Road and Celon Laboratories organised a free lung check-up campaign.
