Thursday turned out to be yet another scorcher for the citizens with the mercury touching 43.4 degree Celsius -- little solace from Wednesday’s 43.9 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature was 30.2 degree Celsius, which was way too high for the denizens. A majority of the people remained indoors to escape the fury of the heat. Daily wage earners were the worst-hit while others postponed their works to evenings. Those who came out had their heads covered with scarves and caps, while arterial roads at Hi-tec City, Abids, Secretariat, Basheerbagh wore a deserted look.

Scheduled and unscheduled power cuts imposed by the power distribution companies added to people’s woes, while roadside shops selling ice-creams, cool drinks, sugarcane juice and coconut water did a brisk business.

Heat wave warning

The Met authorities warned that the current trend would continue for a few more days and have issued a heat wave warning. “It will continue till the south-west monsoon touches the State,” Assistant Meteorologist, IMD Hyderabad, M. Narasimha Rao, said.
