London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal has achieved another rare feat – two million ‘likes’ on her Facebook account. It may not be a big surprise to many given her list of impressive achievements and the way she conducts herself both on and off the court.
“I am thrilled with the kind of response from the fans. Honestly, I never thought that I have this kind of following, especially for a badminton player,” the 25-year-old champion shuttler informed The Hindu on Sunday. Interestingly, this interactive Facebook page was started by the Olympic Gold Quest about three years ago and Saina has been a regular ‘visitor’ to the account. “What really impressed me is there are no negative comments so far. The fans have been really kind to me and always very encouraging,” says the best-ever women’s badminton player from India.
Saina also said that she had made it a point to regularly interact with her fans. “Yes, this helps the players a lot. For it provides the much needed break from your daily rigorous programme,” she pointed. “ Ín fact, after the IBL I am a more frequent visitor to the Facebook,” signed off the gifted shuttler.
