Case of negligence filed against Larji project officials

The body of another engineering student from Hyderabad, Sabir Hussain Shaik, who drowned in the Beas, was recovered on Wednesday. With this, six bodies have been found.

Twenty-five students of a Hyderabad-based college, who were on an excursion to Manali, were washed away by the waters of the Beas on Sunday, following water release from the Larji hydel project. Nineteen are still missing.

The National Disaster Response Force, the Sashastra Seema Bal, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and the local police are engaged in the search operation. Rescue teams complained that search results weren’t good as the river current was very strong. Poor visibility added to their difficulty.

Police have registered a case of negligence against officials of the Larji hydel project under Sections 304 A and 336 of the IPC.

Horrifying video A terrifying video showing the students taking photographs on the rocks in the Beas river and then suddenly shouting for help and drowning within minutes went viral on the internet.

The video on the YouTube shows a massive wall of water engulfing the students. Some were seen trying to swim to a corner but got drowned due to the massive flow of water.
